From 1980 to 1988,
I taught in Xiamen University (Xiada) and various community colleges
in Fujian Province, China.
Two adjacent rooms in Furong III Building were
where our whole family lived from 1980 to 1992 on the campus of
Xiamen University. Simple home without plumbing, without built-in
kitchen, and bathroom, but warm, sweet, and alive, with Li-qing
and I, and our two sons, two
adopted daughters, and sometimes two mothers.

1980至1988，我厦门大学研究生毕业后留校任教，并在厦门、集美、漳州成人高校兼课。
在厦大时，我们的家在芙蓉三的两间筒房。这是我们一家人在厦大十一年多的窝。虽然简陋，虽然有时孩子会吵架，这却是我们真正的家。双方的妈妈有时也来走走。杰英和莹芳也成了我们的女儿。缺油盐或缺人手时，走廊上一呼唤，邻居就来了。
