Kevin is now 17 months old, and often wants to do things as he pleases.  When Sandy has class, Kevin comes here in the mornings, sometimes for the whole day.  His grandma is good at feeding him, coaxing him, and playing with him, so he seldom wants me.  Today (Monday, 8-9-2004), however, he gave me a pleasant surprise when I came home from work.  As soon as he saw me, he stood up and reached out for me.  I abandoned my bag and went to him right away.  No sooner was he in my arms than he motioned me to the patio door.  "It's too hot outside," I said, "90 degrees."  He was not satisfied, and was going to let out his temper when his grandma came with a flyswatter.  "Look outside," she told him, "flies, flies, flap, flap."  Resigned, Kevin went back to operate his lawnmower.

小孙子庄恺恩十七个月了，办事开始有了自己的主见。这些日子，他妈妈上午要读书，因此都把孩子寄在我们这里，有时一整天。他奶奶会喂他哄他陪他玩，所以他都要他奶奶抱。今天(二○○四年八月九日，星期一)下班回来，他一见到我，就站了起来伸出双手，要我了。我受宠若惊，赶紧扔下东西抱起他。谁知，他马上指着玻璃门，要我带他出去。跟他说外面太热(华氏90多度，即摄氏37、38度)，他不高兴了。还好他奶奶提着苍蝇拍赶过来，作势跟他说，“门外有苍蝇，得拍拍拍。”他才又回头去推他的“割草机”。
